Dear Rajanbhai, this is not fair!

It has been quite sometime now that people have been comparing Adolf Hitler with Narendra Modi. During the Lok Sabha elections campaign, I had seen just random people making this pointless comparison. I had told them that either they had a pathetic knowledge of history, or they were deliberately presenting false/distorted arguments due to vested interests. I had hoped that these arguments will be put to rest after the result of the general elections in May 2014, but as it appears, they are still coming. This time, it has come from none other than Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Dr Raghuram Rajan. This was shared and supported by Dr Shashi Tharoor. Now, I consider these two as one of the best brains in India, and so I think it is important to answer this. Here is an honest attempt from a wannabe historian to counter Dr Rajan's claims.

Okay, let us start by making a fair comparison Dr Rajan and Dr Tharoor,

1. Hitler spewed venom against Jews and his aim, as he mentioned in his book, was to annihilate the Jew community all over the world. The PM has never shown even the slightest form of that type of sentiment for any community.

2. The popularity of Hitler wasn't really as much as is shown. The NAZI party fell to 196 seats from 230 (out of 584 seats) in Nov 1932 elections. He came to power because the socialists and communists did not unite. Narendra Modi won spectacularly in-spite of clubbing together of his opponents. His popularity is genuine and much more than that of Hitler.

3. Soon after Hitler became Chancellor in 1933, he hatched a conspiracy of burning the Reich (their parliament) and eliminated his opponents by blaming it on them and getting rid of them one after the other. So much so, that in Nov 1933 German Federal elections (only 11 months after he became chancellor of Germany), there was no opposition party and hence, NAZI party won 661 out of 661 seats. I see absolutely no reason why we should think that Indian opposition parties are facing any such threat. They lost fair and square in Lok Sabha elections as well as subsequent state elections (except for Delhi of course)

4. 1934, there was a symbolic referendum to show that Hitler was the true leader (Fuhrer) of Germany and the constitution was amended to make him above everything/everyone else. Are you saying Mr Rajan/ Mr Tharoor, that there is even the slightest possibility that Mr Modi is going to or even intends to do any such thing?

Obviously, as stated from above, the popularity of Hitler was manufactured and the perceived STRONG government was in reality, DICTATORSHIP where there was no space for opposition. Modi's victory on the other hand is fully democratic and it was in the presence of powerful opposition parties. This is not DICTATORSHIP but a genuinely STRONG government.

Finally, coming to the accountability part, I don't know why Mr Rajan thinks this Government is not being accountable.

1. Black money has already started flowing in (more is to come)
2. The Home Secretary was removed as soon as it was found that he was exerting undue influence over CBI to protect certain accused.
3. The Government, under the supervision of NSA, Mr Ajit Doval carried on an operation to bring those guilty people to the book who were leaking the crucial information to corporate houses.
4. The ministers and bureaucrats are working really hard to meet the challenging targets set by the PM himself.

So, gentlemen, I find your subtle accusations pointed at the government quite stupid, baseless and as I showed, all of them get destroyed in the face of historical as well as other empirical evidences. This is not fair!, is this?
